Who We Are
Why the name ” Choose Yourself “
– A message from Judicaelle Irakoze our founder and Executive Director
When we founded this organization, we wanted to shift the power and allow young women to be at the forefront of shaping the work around the economic and social liberation of women. At Choose Yourself, we believe that young women and girls know exactly what they need and how to dismantle the inequalities affecting their lives.
We are on a journey of helping young women humanize their experiences in societies that routinely underestimate them. Allowing young women and girls to view themselves as powerful agents of change and collaboratively imagining ways to create that change is how we shape, effective , just and powerful leaders. This is why I started Choose Yourself.
Our Approach
Our approach is founded on three tools:
- Intersectionality: we operate at the intersection of race , gender and class
- Community transformation: we believe in transforming our communities on our vision of building a world rooted in gender equity
- Youth leadership: We are intentional with allowing young women and girls to take up space and power
Our Mission
Choose Yourself believes it’s possible to have a world where women and girls are granted the humanity they deserve. We believe we can contribute to the economic and social power of women through feminist movement building, economic justice and leaving no one behind
