Girl Talk Spaces

Girl Talk spaces

A feminist movement building, shaping our communities one conversation at a time

We understand as individuals women are powerful but as a sisterhood, they are forces that cannot be denied.

What's A Girl Talk Space?

It’s a feminist movement-building program that offers safe space for diverse groups of women to first humanize their experiences via the exchanges of ideas, questioning patriarchy and secondly reinforces sisterhood and finally strategize and organize on how to create change within their communities. We realize that through socialization, women operating in patriarchy internalize their oppression. It is, therefore, important for women to be aware of this socialization, talk about their issues, unlearn the internalized sexism, and speak about how they envision themselves locating and using their power.

How do we run our Girl talk program?

In collaboration with our Girl talk coordinators and ambassadors who are young feminist organizers who lead the program according to the needs in their communities, we shape the spaces around conversations ranging from sexual and reproductive health, rape culture, breaking silences around gender-based violence, sisterhood as resistance, and many more.

GT Digital Afrique

Our vision for Girl Talk Africa (Digital) as a global community is to ignite much-needed conversations that address issues and challenges the feminist community face, the need to expand our feminist politics, and most importantly to learn from each other about the conditions of African women and how to strategize for change around these issues. During this pandemic period, we want to take advantage of the improved digital utilization by introducing conversations in collaboration with diverse African feminists whose voices and experiences are diverse on topics that focus on achieving collective liberation, fostering community and solidarity that allows feminists to learn from each other and about each other.

Girl talk Afrique Journal Report

The Girl Talk Journal Report is a publication that seeks to tell stories, state facts, and offer the on-ground reality of the status of women and girls in the countries where our program Girl talk Africa currently operates. The journal report will be released once every year, as a Pan-African centerpiece that any institution can quote, mention, and refer to when it comes to feminist movement building, women’s resistance, the continuous shrinking of women’s freedom, the intersections realities of African women’s struggles and more.

Girl Talk Ambassadors

Girl Talk Ambassadors are feminists who are passionate about movement building in their communities. They work with Girl talk leaders and Director of Girl Talk to identify sponsors, potential panelists, and theme topics. They organize Girl talk spaces in their designated hometowns.

We recognize that these conversations and spaces provided by Girl Talk are important and necessary for women. For this reason, we envision the expansion of Girl Talk to occur in more states, cities and countries. We aim to reach young women and girls across continents to share with them the power that is sisterhood organizing . That’s why we are always welcoming Girl Talk ambassadors.
