Organizing In A Pandemic

Girl Talk conversations amidst a pandemic and organizing was definitely the silver lining in the
very heavy cloud that was 2020. Girl talk away from having thought provoking and challenging
conversations is a space to gather, is a space for a tribe to form and for you to meet like minded
individuals that you can begin to do life with either in thoughts, words and deeds.
2020 took that from us and having to rethink what our space looks like now virtually over the
internet. Our first ever regional Girl Talk was definitely an experience to write home about.
Convening feminists from all over Africa to share their thoughts on what care in a pandemic
looked like.
Away from the internet glitches, a stranger hacking our calls and delays. It was one of the best
Girl Talk spaces we have organized. It was well curated, it fed our souls, it gave us different
perspectives that we might have not had access to in physical spaces. It was beautiful.
Girl Talk did what it should have in a pandemic, it created space for us to exist in the chaos, a
calming cool. As a girl talk ambassador, within the team, our sisterhood grew deeper, the
intentionality with checking in, laughing, sharing and creating time for each other something we
thought was ruled out because of the distance. We survived through a pandemic or attempted
to and I’m looking forward to organizing in 2021!
