Knowing who I’m and where I come from, I have grown with the vision of helping eradicate poverty. I’m Sedinam Ameku, a financial literacy and inclusion advocate from Ghana. I help women understand and practice basic financial concepts through my NGO, Females & Finance Organization.
A little over two years ago, I founded Females & Finance Organization which was passion led. I doubt I would like to go to the stage of founding an organization again. It was a dream only few believed in, my family and less than 5 friends. This wasn’t encouraging as some people proved to me how impossible my dream was which they still do. This came from the angle of my target
audience. They kept asking why women? And I kept answering because they are my target audience. The discrimination against the female gender became real to me.
Against all odds, Females & Finance Organization is still in the business of helping women manage and make good financial decisions. Together with my team, we do this through retreats, compaigns and other initiatives. Our beneficiaries are female students, disabled, entrepreneurs (less than 3year), single mothers, women in rural areas from ages 15 to 55.
All these years, the organization untook initiatives with donations from friends and family. This was quite challenging for the team. Financial support for our projects was not forthcoming as people and potential partners wondered why they would care about someone’s finances and
also trust a team of young inexperienced ladies to make an impact. I bet they don’t know what we are made of.
Through it all, there was light at the end of the tunnel. I became a fellow of Grow With Us, an initiative of Choose Yourself. This opportunity came with a lot of goodies. I’m proud being the first grant awardee of the Fellowship. A grant that would help Females and Finance Organization execute it’s next project, the Girl Money Kit.
I very much believe in the vision of Females & Finance Organization.
