AN EXPEDITION TO BECOMING AN ENTREPRENEUR

I am Racheal from Nakivale Refugee Settlement; one of the ten ladies who got the opportunity to attend the business training by Home Away from Home organized by Choose Yourself together with Kisoboka Africa.

My dream is to become a fashion Designer dealing in men and women’s wear, face makeup and sewing African fabric (Kitenge) cloths and other different cloth materials.

I came up with that business idea when I realized that most people, including modeling clubs, dancers, photographers and other people dress for  different occasions and events. They have to go to far places like Kampala to get real fashion designers, so I am really positive that once I start my business, the struggle for them will be history.

I am actually very happy for the encouragement I have got so far from this 3rd session with these faithful trainers. It was unbelievable for me as well as for my colleagues to find out that money is not the first thing that comes as you plan to start a business. We learnt that the first capital is “ME”; skills; Assets then personal interest which lead a person to be flexible and finally money. Generally, from these sessions I can now differentiate money and capital where by capital is the resources you need to start the business while money is a very small part of the resources that make up the capital.

In upcoming sessions, I would like to know more about record keeping, costing, market research, and gaining more skills also on how to compete with my competitors.
