One of the most vulnerable Girl Talk we have had yet this year.
The topic was to raise awareness on sexual assault and the trauma that comes with it.
Our focus was mainly to raise awareness on how to be aware of our triggers, and how we can best hold spaces for survivors.
So many times we define and diagnose people based on our personal views and that could be a triggering point to the survivor.
As we approach survivors, we must be careful not to overstep our boundaries.
Another equally important thing is to know and identify our triggers, we cannot heal what we don’t know! Therefore, knowing and making sure your loved ones understand your triggers as well goes a long way when healing.
We dream of a world where we can speak about these things without any shame whatsoever.
The common denominator in all of this is Victim Blaming.
Rape culture has normalized this behaviour r to a point where this doesn’t allow a safe space for survivors to come forward with their stories.
We are working towards raising as much awareness as we can on this topic to a point where we no longer face the shame and blaming that comes with speaking up.
Owning our voices will require a lot of work but with this begins our recovery and healing.
